In my office you are accepted for who you truly are, in this moment.

You want to make a change, but feel like you don’t have anything left to offer, or don’t know where to start. It’s possible you have made great efforts to get relief… but you now realize that things haven’t gotten better, or that prior efforts -such as other approaches or unhealthy coping tools- were only temporary band-aids.

I’m Kristen Pryor, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Inverness, and it is my mission that each person who entrusts me with the most vulnerable corners of their lives feels heard, seen, and understood.

I am “attachment focused” which means that I understand that having safe and secure connections to other humans helps pretty much every aspect of our well-being. It’s true that we are biologically “wired to connect” and I dedicate myself to deeply “attuning” to each and every person who comes to see me. You can expect to be known for the unique individual you are, rather than merely a collection of symptoms or a diagnosis.

While I am attachment-focused, you can also expect that there will be actionable direction for your therapy.  Drawing from other proven techniques such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we will talk about your goals, treatment options, and ensure that you are on a path that supports the benefits you are wanting to get out of the process.

I also consider myself to be a pretty down-to-earth therapist. My office is casual & comfortable. Besides tears and pain, there is plenty of room for laughter.

It matters to me that you leave each session, including the very first visit, with some benefit – whether it be an answer to a question, a new insight or “a-ha moment”, a helpful coping tool or resource, or a positive and perhaps even monumental shift in your healing journey.

It matters to me that you are supported in living a life that is congruent with your personal values and your authentic self.

I look forward to meeting you and learning more about you…

More About Me

I’ve been working in the counseling field since 1994, when I began doing crisis intervention and counseling in a non-profit agency. In this setting I worked on a 24 hour crisis/ suicide hotline, responded to the needs of homeless individuals in the community and in shelter, as well as providing individual and group counseling to survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse/ assault and incest. I earned my Masters in Counseling in 2000, and obtained my clinical licensure (LCPC) in 2009, the same year I began private practice work.

I think I naturally fell into this work, and I truly love it.  I was a very socially anxious kid with bouts of depression from early ages into college years, so I am very aware of pain and unease in other people and have a natural inclination to help.

My personal interests are natural forms of therapy… I’m a huge dog/ animal lover! I love to travel, whether flying or a road trip. I’ve spent many summers with family on the lakes in central Wisconsin floating and kayaking, enjoying nature. The mountains and ocean in California are also a favorite spot.

I love sports, whether watching baseball in the summer or football in the winter. In high school I was pretty obsessed with NBA basketball. Music is therapy too and I have a range of musical taste. I also believe food is medicine, and try to eat “clean” as much as possible for physical and mental health. However, actually cooking food is not therapy for me as many of my most embarrassing moments were made in the kitchen!
